Ford Motor Company announced it would produce mass vehicles with full autonomy by 2021. What does that mean exactly? Ford’s plan is to create a vehicle with no steering wheel, and no gas or brake pedals. In order to reach this innovative goal, Ford is investing in or will be collaborating with four startup companies to enhance the development of their autonomous vehicle. Their plans also include doubling their Silicon Valley Team and Palo Alto campus.
Mark Fields, President, and CEO of Ford notes “The next decade will be defined by automation of the automobile, and we see autonomous vehicles as having as significant an impact on society as Ford’s moving assembly line did 100 years ago. We’re dedicated to putting on the road an autonomous vehicle that can improve safety and solve social and environmental challenges for millions of people – not just those who can afford luxury vehicles.”
The expanded Palo Alto campus is scheduled to open in mid-2017. To learn more information about Ford’s Autonomous vehicles visit Liberty Ford Of Maple Heights.
