Ford has always been a pioneer in the automotive industry. This Earth Day, Ford is showing us how they're setting the bar even higher and advancing into new territory with the new 2016 Ford F-150, which is poised to become one of the lowest carbon footprint full-size trucks on the market.
The aluminum in the #Ford #F150 goes on quite a journey from scrap to assembly and back again. #EarthDayhttps://t.co/YrgBrwZthi

Ford is accomplishing this in two ways. First, it changed the body and many of the components in the 2016 F-150 from being manufactured with steel to military-grade aluminum. This not only saves on weight, but also on carbon emissions from the production of steel. Secondly, the Ford plant in Dearborn, Michigan uses an innovative closed-loop recycling system, recycling up to 20 million pounds of aluminum each month. This aluminum gets recast at an offsite forge and then put right back into production. In fact, all of this recycled aluminum can produce up to 30 thousand more F-150 bodies.
Best of all, using this recycling process cuts the greenhouse emissions associated with producing the requisite aluminum from ore by 95 percent. Once again, Ford is leading the automotive industry and helping the environment in the process.
